Why does our couple profile get so few replies?

Many couples set up a profile, send a handful of messages and hear very little back. It is easy to read that as a verdict on your looks, but the cause is usually more mundane and much easier to fix.

Other couples decide in seconds whether to open a conversation. What they are checking is less about attraction than about whether your profile gives them enough to go on.

Signals

What makes a couple profile trustworthy to others?

The strongest signal is that both of you are clearly present. A profile where only one partner appears in the photos, or where the text is written entirely in the first person, makes readers wonder whether the other half is on board. Couples who have been around a while have usually met someone in that situation and tend to steer clear. Showing both of you, even without faces, answers the question before it is asked.

The second signal is effort. A few recent photos, a text longer than two lines, and some specific interests show that you intend to use the profile. Verification, where available, tells others that the pictures are genuinely yours.

The text

What should a couple profile text actually say?

Say what you are looking for, what you are not looking for, and how you like to get to know people. A sentence about your pace, such as preferring a drink first, sets expectations and reassures cautious couples. Add something about who you are outside the lifestyle, because readers reply to people rather than to lists of preferences. A few short paragraphs read far better than one long block.

Vague texts attract vague replies or none at all. ‘Open to most things’ tells the reader nothing and makes it harder for a well-matched couple to recognise themselves in your words. Some people will pass you by once you are specific, and those are people you would not have matched with anyway.

  • Who you are, in a sentence or two each
  • What you are looking for, and what you are not
  • How you like first contact to go
  • The age range and area you are open to

Activity

Why do our messages go unanswered?

Copied messages are the usual culprit. A greeting that could have gone to any profile reads as mass mailing, and busy couples skip it. Referring to one specific thing in their text shows you read it and gives them something easy to answer. Short is fine, whereas generic is not.

Timing and activity matter as well. A profile last used weeks ago is less likely to be shown to others and less likely to be trusted by those who find it. Replying within a day or two to the messages you do receive keeps conversations alive and makes your profile look worth writing to. Reading your own profile on a phone, as a stranger would, often shows exactly what is missing.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do we need face pictures to get replies?

Faces are not required. Many couples keep them private and still get replies, as long as the photos show both partners and the text is clear.

Should we lower our standards to get more replies?

Usually not. More replies from couples you would never meet waste everyone's time, while a clearer profile brings fewer but better conversations.

How often should a couple profile be updated?

Whenever something changes, and with a light refresh of the photos now and then. An up-to-date profile reads as an active one.

Is it worth writing to couples who have viewed our profile?

It can be, since a view shows some interest. Keep the message as personal as any other first contact.
